Happy Mothers’ Day and Welcome to St. Mary’s Church!

Happy Mothers’ Day to all at St. Mary’s Church. Today we give thanks for the legacy of strong women in our lives and in our community who strengthen us in the struggles for peace and justice. Special thanks today to the Rev. Chris Ferguson for bringing us the Word.

The Episcopal Church Women’s Prayer Committee will meet today following the 10:00 am service. The Rev. Chloe A. Breyer will lead the session. Next month,  June 13th, Ms. Glenda White will lead the program.  All women are invited.

Appreciative Inquiry: 8:00 am Version! Next Sunday, May 16th at 9:00 am we will have a short version of Appreciative Inquiry for our members who attend the 8:00 am service. A light breakfast will be provided, so please plan of joining us for an extra hour as we discuss our theme, “Envisioning Our Future” For more information please see Dorothy Ross.

Celebrate the legacy of Thurgood Marshall: Justice Marshall’s name was added to the calendar of saints, “Holy Men and Holy Women” this year, for May 17th the anniversary of Brown v. Board of Education. There will be a celebration next Sunday, May 16th at 4:00 pm at St. Philip’s Church, 204 W. 134th St. Mr. Benjamin Jealous, President of the NAACP (and a member of St. Mary’s) will be the speaker.

NYC Redeemers Coalition will meet on Thursday May 20th at 11:30 am at “The Other Place” corner of West End Ave. and West 87th Street. See Charles Kelly for more details.

The Episcopal Church Women will meet on May 23rd following the 10:00 am service. All women are invited. Also, the ECW is planning a Rumage Sale, June 5th (raindate: June 12th) so please see Lisa Slocum or Celia Braxton for more details.

Next Vestry Meeting: Thursday, May 27th at 6:00 pm. All are invited.

Mariam, Mark and Marx: will meet on Thursday, May 27th at 7:00 pm. Come to this monthly Bible Study & current events discussion. See Jim White for more information.

Eastertide Tuesdays: Pray and Bible Study – During Eastertide we will gather on Tuesday evenings for prayer and Bible Study. We will begin with prayers for peace at 6:30 pm and follow with an “African Bible Study” All are invited as we seek to follow the new light in our lives given to us in our savior Jesus.\

“In Honor of Martin . . .” Wednesday, May 12, 12 noon.  David Hurd’s  composition for five-part chorus, piano, string bass and percussion. Commissioned by Carl Maltsby for RejoiceEnsemble, at The Interchurch Center Chapel —  First Floor, Claremont Avenue at 120th St.  Christopher Johnson, Director. Liz Mellen of St. Mary’s Choir will sing at this event.
