Good Morning and Welcome to St. Mary’s Church!!

“Of all forms of inequality, injustice in health care is the most shocking and inhumane.” Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Today we welcome Dr. Mary T. Bassett of Physicians for a National Health Program to speak with us on what we can do to overcome the injustices of our health care system. Dr. Bassett is presently Director for the African Health Initiative at the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation, an effort that focuses on strengthening health systems in projects underway in Ghana, Mozambique, Rwanda, Tanzania and Zambia. Previously she was a deputy commissioner at the New York City Health Department, where she oversaw programs that addressed non-communicable disease and maternal and child health as well as the district public health offices based in Harlem, Central Brooklyn and the Bronx. Between 1985 and 2002 she lived in Harare, Zimbabwe where she was a member of the medical faculty at the University of Zimbabwe.

Inclusive Language discussion, following the 10:00 am service this morning. Come and let us know how you feel about more inclusive language for our worship.

The Episcopal Church Women will meet next Sunday, Jan. 23rd following the 10:00 am service. All women are invited. Please see Celia Braxton for more information.

Property tours Come and learn about our Church facilities, tours Jan. 23 following the 10:00 am service and Jan. 30 following the 8:00 am service. Also, please notice that the scaffolding was taken down and the bridge will be dismantled next week for the new “facelift” of St. Mary’s street façade. Please see Liz Mellen for more information.

Eccelsia: Marcus Garvey Park: Sundays at 2:00 pm. St. Mary’s is the lead congerga-tion on the first Sunday each month. We need volunteers on today to help us make the lunches for the service. Also: St. Mary’s Homeless Street Outreach: Saturdays, 12:00 noon preparation and 2:00 pm street outreach. Please let us know if you can help and please keep the Homeless Street Outreach in your prayers.

The Vestry will meet this Thursday, January 20th at 6:00 pm. All are invited.

Movies at St. Mary’s: 6:00 pm on Fridays. Come for the fellowship, the popcorn and the FUN!! Also, we need volunteers to help. Please let Lisa Slocum know if you can help out. Thanks!! The Men’s Prayer Group will meet on Saturday, January 29th at 8:00 am. All men are invited to come pray with us.

The Anglican Covenant: We will meet again to discuss the proposed Anglican Covenant on Jan. 30th following the 10:00 am service. Miguel Escobar will lead the discussion. Copies will be available on-line or on the back table in the Church.

Bishop Mark Sisk will visit St. Mary’s Church on February 6th for Confirmation and preaching at the 10:00 am service. Let’s plan on a great celebration for him.
