St. Mary’s Announcements for March 21!

Saturday, March 24, 4 pm- 7 pm: Harlem Chamber Players & Opus 118 Concert

The students of Opus 118 Harlem School of Music and members of The Harlem Chamber Players return to St. Mary’s to perform a joint concert. Hear the highly acclaimed students from Opus 118 and meet the founder and master teacher Roberta Guaspari, the inspiration behind the award-winning documentary, “Small Wonders” and Miramax’s film, “Music of the Heart.” Music by Mozart, Chevalier de Saint-George and more! Tickets: $20 for general admission; $15 for students and seniors. Online: $5 off.

Sundays in March, 5 pm: March Mass Meetings

Every Sunday in March at 5 pm at Park Avenue Christian Church, 1010 Park Ave. Through our March Mass Meetings at the Park we have the opportunity to focus on different social sins that we can collectively confront in our lives and in our community. March 25th: The Poor Peoples Campaign

Lent 2018: Stations of the Cross 

An exhibition across NYC in 14 iconic destinations (http://www.artstations.org/). St. Mary’s will host Station 3: Jesus Falls, with an icon entitled “Our Lady of Ferguson” in our sanctuary throughout the Lenten season. People will be able to visit during office open hours (Monday-Friday, 10 am to 2 pm), and Thursday evening from 6 to 8 pm as well as on Sundays.

Friday, June 1, 6:30 pm: Manhattan North Inter-Parish Council Annual Celebration

This event is a benefit for the MNIPC Summer Educational Project.  At Church of the Intercession, 550 West 155 Street, New York City.

Maundy Thursday Eucharist- With Footwashing, Stripping of the Altar, and Agape Meal. Overnight Vigil at the Altar of Repose- All are welcome to pray and meditate, to keep company with Christ in the garden.
Friday, March 30, 12 noon to 3 pm
Good Friday Liturgy- with the Veneration of the Cross, Communion from the Reserve Sacrament, and Stations of the Cross
Saturday, March 31
12:00 noon- Holy Saturday Service in the Garden (weather permitting)
12:30 pm- Easter Egg Dyeing for Children and Adults in the Garden (weather permitting)
7:30 pm- The Great Vigil of Easter- An ancient service celebrating the new fire of Easter, all salvation history, and the first alleluias!

Thursday, April 5, 6:30 pm: Food Programs Benefit Organ Concert

Karen Beaumont will be performing an organ recital with transcriptions by Fernando Sor, Archangelo Corelli, and Heinrich Biber — some lively and light, some tender and intimate. She is an active organ recitalist and organ and piano instructor.  She also plays the French Horn.  From November 1988 through April 2011, she provided the organ and choral music at St. James Episcopal Church in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.  She holds a degree in Music History from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. http://karenbeaumontorganist.mysite.com

Sunday, April 15, coffee hour: Wisdom Circle

For self-identified seniors, elders and wisepeople. This Circle is a space for you to be yourself, connect to other elders, reflect together on the blessings and hardships of life, and share your rich spiritual insight and wonderful gifts. Topic this month: Who am I becoming?

Every 1st Sunday 2:00 p.m. in Marcus Garvey Park. St. Mary’s is the lead congregation on the first Sunday of each month. We always need some volunteers to help prepare and serve the “Second Meal” following the service.

Unity Fellowship Church of New York
Led by Sr. Bishop Zachary Jones. Unity worships on Sundays at 2:00pm.

Metro New York Adventist Forum

Led by Ms. Janet Schultz. Adventist Forum gathers on the second Saturday of the month (please check for specific dates).

Pamsula Zen Meditation

Miriam, Mark and Marx: Our interfaith Justice and Peace Activism Community meets the last Thursday of each month. We gather at 6:00PM to share food, experiences, and feelings. We then plan how to advance in the struggle against racism, sexism, and expanding war in these very troubling times.  For information or Pastoral Care call Jim White at 201-956-5356, or leave him a message in the parish office.  Next meeting: April 19.

Free Movie! Every Friday Night at St. Mary’s Church at 6:00 pm… St. Mary’s Movies! March 30: Good Friday:  a question of faith (2017, pg, drama, 1h44min)  tragedy strikes three families, setting them on paths to resurrect their beliefs. w/ richard t. jones, kim fields, c. thomas howell. Come for the fellowship, the movie, the popcorn, dinner and the fun…  volunteers always needed and welcome. 

Saturday Mobile Soup Kitchen: Help prepare sandwiches and lunch bags and then distribute them to our neighbors on the street. Every Saturday at 12 noon.

Urban Qi (free Tai Chi and Qi Gong classes for St. Mary’s members) every Wednesday and Saturday at 10:30 am at St. Nicholas Park @135th Street. Inclement weather–meet in the Undercroft.
