Pray for the repose of the soul of Joel Kovel and for his family. A memorial service in celebration of Joel’s life will be held this Saturday, May 5, 4 pm at St. Mary’s followed by a repast in the Rectory.

Pray for the repose of the soul of James Hal Cone. The funeral for The Rev. Dr. James H. Cone will be held on Monday, May 7, 11 am at The Riverside Church. The service will be livestreamed for anyone unable to attend in person.

After service, come to coffee hour for monthly fellowship with the Living Change Fellows.

Wednesday, May 9, 7 pm: Rogation Day- Evening Prayers & Blessing the Garden
“Rogare” in Latin means “to ask.” On Rogation Days (three days before Ascension Day) we ask God for protection for and blessing of our parish and our “crops” or gardens. Traditionally there would be procession around the grounds, and violet vestments would be worn. Join us for our contemporary version!

Thursday, May 17, 7-10 pm: A Liturgy of Lamentation- Commemorating the presence of Dr Martin Luther King Jr.
Part of the Year of Lamentation of the Diocese of New York. This three-year period was declared at the 2017 Diocesan Convention as a means of understanding and addressing the diocese’s past role in the slavery era and the ongoing injustice associated with it today. With the Very Rev. Dr. Kelly Brown Douglas, the Rt. Rev. Andrew S. Dietsche, artists and performers.

Sunday, May 20, 10:30 am: Pentecost Celebration w/  The Rev. Canon Stephanie Spellers
Canon to the Presiding Bishop for Evangelism & Reconciliation, Rev. Spellers will speak about “Revolutionary Listening for Healing and Transforming Racial Injustice.”

Sunday, May 20, Coffee hour: Wisdom Circle
(Rescheduled) For self-identified seniors, elders and wisepeople. This Circle is a space for you to be yourself, connect to other elders, reflect together on the blessings and hardships of life, and share your rich spiritual insight and wonderful gifts. Topic: Who am I becoming?

Ecclesia
Every 1st Sunday 2:00 p.m. in Marcus Garvey Park. St. Mary’s is the lead congregation on the first Sunday of each month. We always need some volunteers to help prepare and serve the “Second Meal” following the service.

Evening Prayer at St. Mary’s
Wednesdays at 7 pm.

Unity Fellowship Church of New York
Led by Sr. Bishop Zachary Jones. Unity worships on Sundays at 2:00pm.

Metro New York Adventist Forum
Led by Ms. Janet Schultz. Adventist Forum gathers on the second Saturday of the month (please check for specific dates).

Pamsula Zen Meditation
Teacher Daiken Nelson. Every Monday evening at 6:00 pm in the rectory.

Miriam, Mark and Marx: Our interfaith Justice and Peace Activism Community meets the last Thursday of each month. We gather at 6:30PM to share food, experiences, and feelings. We then plan how to advance in the struggle against racism, sexism, and expanding war in these very troubling times.  For information or Pastoral Care call Jim White at 201-956-5356, or leave him a message in the parish office.  Next meeting: May 31.

Free Movie! Every Friday Night at St. Mary’s Church at 6:00 pm… St. Mary’s Movies! May 11: The Sound of Music (1965) g, musical bio-drama. A young woman leaves her convent to become a nanny for a family in danger. One of our “favorite things”! Starring Julie Andrews, Christopher Plummer. Come for the fellowship, the movie, the popcorn, dinner and the fun…  volunteers always needed and welcome.

Saturday Mobile Soup Kitchen: Help prepare sandwiches and lunch bags and then distribute them to our neighbors on the street. Every Saturday at 12 noon.

Urban Qi (free Tai Chi and Qi Gong classes for St. Mary’s members) every Wednesday and Saturday at 10:30 am at St. Nicholas Park @135th Street. Inclement weather–meet in the Undercroft.
