Roughly one thousand people are killed nationally each year by police, almost one half are are Black, Latinx, or Native American, and FULLY ONE in FOUR are in mental crisis!  Too many of our mentally disturbed sisters and brothers have been killed here in New York City. Action is ESSENTIAL! Sponsored by Congregations for Justice and Peace at St. Mary’s Church, the Forum will share the anguish of victims’ families and friends, explore what fundamental changes are vital in response to those in need, and begin to outline the kinds of resources required to make these changes effective. Panelists will include members of victims’ families, experienced first responders, psychiatric and social work professionals, and community activists. Your active involvement in preparing for the Forum and following campaign is CRUCIAL! Contact: james.white173@gmail.com

SAVE THE DATES!

September 8-9 is St. Mary’s Festival Weekend
October 4: First Annual St. Mary’s Anti-Gala!

Call for ushers
Someone’s first impression of a church, aside from the outside building, is often the way they are greeted by the person standing inside offering them a bulletin. St. Mary’s needs ushers! If you like people and feel passionate about showing others the hospitality and welcome not just of our space and community, but of God, talk to Mother Mary or Atticus for a training. It’s a low impact yet vital role!

We ask your Prayers for:

The Missions endorsed by St. Mary’s Vestry:

The Black Lives Matter Movement (https://policy.m4bl.org/platform/)
Jubilee USA (http://www.jubileeusa.org/)
The New Sanctuary Movement (http://www.newsanctuarynyc.org/)

Our Partners:  Unity Fellowship Church, NYC; NYC Adventist Forum; Pamsula Zen; Alanon; Alcoholics Anonymous; Columbia Harlem Homeless Medical Partnership (CHHMP); the Episcopal Churches in Harlem; Narcotics Anonymous; Network Support; St. Mary’s Center; Urban Qi.

Our Neighbors: 26th Precinct, Eglise de Dieu, Emergency Services, Manhattan North Task Force, Old Broadway Family Residence, Old Broadway Synagogue, Templo Biblico.

Everyone who comes to St. Mary’s throughout the week, and anyone who is not able to be with us.

And for the broader church:

The Diocese of New York (https://www.dioceseny.org/)
